Hi all !

I guess you would like to have some news about the iFly 747v2 SP1 ? Then you should appreciate these first previews.
Of couse, this preview topic does not have the purpose to give you a release date as we do not announce that in advance, we will keep our habits ;)
At the moment let's concentrate on the pictures =)

The Development and Beta team listened to maximize possible improvements... And I do not risk much by saying that I have no doubt it will please your expectations.
I personally enjoy this beauty, I am sure it is the best 747 simulation I have ever seen yet on FS, and no doubt it will remain so with these enhancements.

Many efforts have been put into optimizations, visuals but also system improvements.
For those a little bit more adventurous, you can even check against a real FCOM, you will see for yourself that everything possible in FS is there.

On my side you might have seen a few of my repaints, they will all be updated with SP1 visual enhancements, and new ones will continue to be created of course.

Here are a few details of what has been done for our new Service Pack :

- Performance optimizations including a choice between 2D or 3D panel to save VAS and decrease OOM risks.
- Aircraft performances has been revised. You will now have the feeling of flying a 747 more than ever before.
- Autopilot is more stable during approach. LOC and G/S holds much better.
- No more false windshear warnings.
- Engine and APU settings have been improved.
- Mouse scroll is now available and left and right mouse click actions were revised.

- Revised bump maps
- Many new exterior texture enhancements
- Updated models
- New reflections on exterior model
- New reflecting exterior windows
- Wing flex improved, you will now see the beautiful curvature of a 744 wing

- And a lot more, the list is extensive.

Now I already hear you guys, will there be flood lights in the night cockpit?
Of course yes ! And you will love them =D

But as we prefer to save the suspense we will show them a bit later.

You now have an idea of what will come with the iFly 747v2 SP1.
As a lot of small and nice details have been added in addition to these great improvements I am sure you will love the Queen of the skies !

I will now let you appreciate the pictures. British Airways livery concern FSX previews, other liveries are FS9 previews. I don't use P3D but of course the SP1 will also be released for P3D.
These screenshots have been taken on a low/mid-end computer compared to what is usually required for FSX.

Here is my config : Intel i3 4330 @3,5Ghz / Nvidia GTS 450 1Gb / Memory 8Gb
Antialising is set to 4xS.

If you have questions, we will answer you with pleasure when possible.

Happy 747 iFlying !

Click on the screenshots to get full sized versions.

Best,
Maxime.

Maxime,

glad to see the team has been listening. the G/S, windshear improvements and the addition of mouse scrolling alone are huge.

any word on the freighter version? that's the one i'm REALLY waiting for.

Thanks for the update,

Kyle

@kmax59

I am only interested in two things:

Will you add center bar,

will you add more specific sounds for switches, knobs, buttons, levers ect?

This is important, if somebody loads up original recorded specific sounds, so that we can easaily exchange sound files.

Hi guys,

my turn! As promised yesterday in a post I will create a series of videos to show the system and deep improvements made in the SP1. I will not be able to do a video everyday but I will show you everything I can think of. There is a lot to show and a lot to talk about so, if you want to see something specific, let me know just by saying and I will see if I can show you that specific item.

Initially, the videos will be about systems as, with major changes like clickspots, flood lights and exterior there were some changes in systems to make the 747-400 even more realistic than what it was earlier. I'm planning 4/5 videos about systems and then we will see! Smile

Quick notes: first, video was taken on FS9.1, on an old laptop and with BandiCam and because of the limitations refresh rate on FS9 is lower than FSX where is much smoother. Secondly, this is not yet the release version of SP1 so everything can change before release. Wink

Now, enjoy!

Cheers,
Paolo Fumagalli

Very nice video Paolo Thumbs Up

@Asdro : We decided to not include the center pillar because it will use additional VAS and we must save it as best as we can.

As for the sounds they are already orginals and have been recorded in a real 747-400.
Best,
Maxime.

@kmax59

Many users requested it. It looks ugly without it. The 737NG has it , too.

You can implement it optional in the config tool.

I didn`t ask for original sounds. I asked for more specific sounds for levers, Knobs, switches ect.

@asdro: I didn't quite understand your request about the sounds. They have all been registered in the real 747, we are not going to change them because we are looking for realism and they are as real as it gets. All switches, levers, animations have sounds specific for them. Wink
About the center pillar, we considered it and talked about doing it. Flood lights are amazing but they add VAS, so the final decision was to save VAS on the center pillar to made possible doing the flood lights. It's always a compromise and that was the team decision. Smile

Sorry, I didn`t ask for "amazing" floodlights. I asked for Center pillar on the 2D panel..

I can`t understand why it should not be possible to add that as optional setting in the config tool. Those who have weak PCs can inhibit the center Pillar.

It`s just a bar in on the main 2D panel view.Geek

As Paolo just said FS is a world of compromises. The 747 v2 is not like the 737, it uses new technologies but is also much more detailed and heavier for computers, we have to save as much VAS as we can in order to allow you to use 3rd party addons with our product.

We also have to find a good balance to satisfy everyone so we have to consider what is requested the most.

Sorry but our decision is taken about that.

Please no more posts asking for the 2D center pillar.
Best,
Maxime.

Well, that makes probably my descision easier not to buy the product.

I descided to buy the product after the release of V1.1.

The 2D panel looks naked for me without the pillar. I `ll continue fly the good old PMDG 747 V1.

Looking forward to SP1,specially the performance improvements. Just one thing: is the model file locked? This because sometimes I have the impression the plane is sitting too high.

Hi Luis,

first of all remember that minimum specs are the one in the product page, my laptop is just indicative; usually I use my desktop but last few months was unable due to travelling and moving around.

Anyway: Lenovo T520, i7-2620M 2.7GHz, 8,00 GB RAM, Samsung PRO 500GB SSD and Nvidia NVS4200. It was a good laptop when I bought it around 4 years ago. Now it's considerable as medium to low as a laptop. Wink

Paolo, I have a question for you:

I see you have an SSD for storage (presumably FS is also on it). Did you notice any serious performance improvements with the upgrade?

I have been scratching my head weather or not to get one, primarily for this bird and other FS things.

Well, easy answer is yes. The switch to SSD gave a new life to my laptop and I feel that I didn't gain only in texture loading times but also some FPS. I use the SSD for both my OS and programs and I made the switch back in September.

What I think is that the change is more noticeable if you don't have a very powerful PC, like in the case of my laptop. If you have last generation Extreme processors and a powerful graphic card the performances are great so you will not experience much change. But if you suffer in some areas, switching to an SSD can heavily improve the performances. My desktop is quite a more powerful PC and when I first changed to SSD the improvements were not as much as I hoped for, different story with the laptop. Wink

Congratulations on the upcoming SP!

She looks beautiful!

I haven't been following since the original release, however have one question: Is automatic fuel balancing still only available in time compression (2x/4x)? Or is it now available in normal time? (was the only thing preventing me from purchasing).

Yeah, I'm sorta of in the same state. It takes For-ev-er to load FS9 now, and a while to start a flight.

I also do a lot of photography with raw images weighing 30-70mb each.. I just don't know how much space I want. The other thing is that I'm on a laptop too, so hopefully what you say might be true!

I have had a SSD for 3 years and FS loads in less than 10sec. Then, from the time i select a gate and i can sit in my cockpit, usually around 10 secs as well, but of course much less if an empty remote airfield.

If you guys changed the selectors to left click and right click, Instead of having to make sure you had a plus or minus sign, your products would be much more user freindly. Don't you think?

As Jeremy has pointed out and mentioned in Maxime's post.

We revised the mouse interaction.
Mouse wheel Scroll was added to a lot of objects, we have done away with 99.9% of the + - interactions.
You can just point and hover your mouse pointer/hand over an object scroll the mouse wheel up/down or Left/Right click the mouse buttons to action the object.

You will be very satisfied I am sure. Wink

Looking forward to SP1. Will it solve the FPS issue in FS9 with the mouse cursor causing FPS to drop significantly. No problem like this in the 737 series on my system but yes with the 747.

Hi John,

Sorry but there is nothing we can do about the mouse cursor fps drop, this is a FS native issue which you can see on any FS aircraft. The heavier the aircraft is, the more you will see this issue.

Best,
Maxime.

I must agree with everyone about getting a B74F model... its think the number is something close to 90% of the B744s left are freighters.  I would love to run some Polar Cargo flights.  Great aircraft, but I personally think its just not complete without the F model.

Let me ask another question: how much were your CPU and GPU temperatures in this situation, with the mouse hovering everywhere during your aircraft setup?

This is great news about your upcoming SP1. Looking really forward to it, especially the new cockpit floodlights (I've been missing them a lot in FS9) and the updated external models. Just curious, is there any chance of an external model added with the internet antenna housing that can be seen on the top of the fuselage behind the upper deck of the Lufthansa's 744's? In the picture below visible far left:

Well, not really high. I'm around 40C at full power that it's really not that high considering what I'm pushing out from it. Wink

The main issue with those is that FS9 doesn't simulate neither APU or ground power. FSX does simulate APU, so limitations are less. But the team took the decision to not "fake" any functionality, to keep the realism high! Wink
